Katie Keen

Violin Instructor/Performer

Katie Keen started playing violin at the age of 7 in her hometown, Hastings England. At age 13 she earned a place at the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD), where she studied with Erica Dearing. In her years there she played in multiple chamber groups and played in Symphony Orchestra, where she was coached by Cynthia Fleming (former concertmaster of the BBC Concert Orchestra). Katie is an active performer and plays regularly in competitions, festivals, and recitals at RCMJD and Battle Abbey School, where she earned a place with a music scholarship. In 2016 Katie won an award from Awards for Young Musicians, and got the opportunity to play with the BBCSO. She has been a regular award winner ever since. In 2020 Katie competed in Hastings Musical Festival where she was awarded 1st prize in the Gold Medal and String Solo classes and won the cup for the highest mark in any open class. Katie has attended Interlochen and Pro Corda summer camps where she studied with Alex Shiozaki. She has played in masterclasses with Hai-Xin Wu and regularly with Thomas Gould.

She can offer lessons to beginner-intermediate level violinists, looking to become better musicians, ages 8 and older. In her lessons she will go through technique, musicality, tone, scales, and more.
